About Adare Manor

Adare Manor is an 840-acre estate on the banks of the River Maigue, built around a neo-Gothic manor house dating to the 1830s, the former seat of the Earls of Dunraven. The Irish businessman J.P. McManus bought the estate in 2015 and immediately began a comprehensive reconstruction. The golf course was originally laid out by Robert Trent Jones Sr in 1995; McManus commissioned the American architect Tom Fazio to rebuild it in 2016–17, and it reopened in May 2018.

The rebuild was total. Fazio kept the routing but reconstructed every tee, bunker, green and water feature, capping the whole site with over 200,000 tonnes of sand for drainage, laying miles of pipe, and installing SubAir systems beneath every green — the same technology used at Augusta National, where Fazio has long consulted. Fibre-optic broadcast conduit was built into the course from the start. The result is a parkland course maintained to a standard rarely seen in Europe, and effectively purpose-built to host a Ryder Cup.

Previous tournaments: the course hosted the Irish Open in 2007 and 2008 (won by Pádraig Harrington and Richard Finch), and the JP McManus Pro-Am — a star-studded charity event — most recently in 2022, when a field including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele played and which raised enormous sums for local causes. That Pro-Am doubled as a dress rehearsal for 2027.

Why it was selected: Adare was announced in 2019 as a Ryder Cup host, originally for 2026. The pandemic pushed the 2020 match at Whistling Straits to 2021, shifting the whole calendar and moving Adare to September 2027 — which, by happy accident, made it the venue for the event's 100th anniversary. Course guide

Adare Manor plays to 7,509 yards, par 72, from the championship tees — four par-3s, ten par-4s and four par-5s. It is a parkland test with generous fairways off the tee that tighten sharply at the landing zones; the defence is in the approach shots and the green complexes, which have large run-off areas that repel anything less than precise. Water is in play on 14 of the 18 holes, and the River Maigue becomes the defining feature down the closing stretch.

The front nine

The opening holes are more open, but a 14-acre lake dominates the outward half and comes into direct play around the par-5 7th, where players must decide how much water to carry. Reachable par-5s and risk-and-reward decisions are woven throughout, exactly the kind of golf that produces match-play swings.

The closing stretch — where 2027 will be decided

Fazio designed the run home with Sunday singles in mind, and it is the reason this course will produce drama. From roughly the 14th onward the River Maigue is a constant presence, hugging greens and punishing any over-bold approach. The par-3 16th (around 157 yards, with a pond guarding a severely angled green) is likely to be one of the most-watched holes of the week — a short iron that still demands total commitment under pressure. The par-5 18th, with water cutting up the right and the manor house rising behind the green, is a natural amphitheatre built for decisive putts and celebration.

The reachable par-5s (including the 7th and 18th) are the obvious swing holes, offering eagles and disasters in equal measure — precisely the volatility that decides fourball matches. The short par-3s, the 16th especially, are where foursomes pairs can win or lose a hole with a single tee shot. Expect the closing four holes to flip more than one match on the Sunday.

Which players should thrive at Adare Manor?

Using historical tendencies for parkland championship golf — not any game's ratings — a few profiles stand out at a course like this:

• Precise iron players. With generous fairways but exacting approaches into run-off greens, ball-strikers who control their distances and flight will have the biggest edge. This is an approach-play golf course.
• Elite putters and short-game artists. Large run-off areas mean frequent recovery chips and long lag putts; players comfortable scrambling around Fazio's green complexes will save the holes that decide tight matches.
• Long hitters — with a caveat. Length helps on the reachable par-5s, but the wide landing areas reduce the premium on raw driving compared with a tight, rough-lined course. Power is an asset, not a trump card.
• Players comfortable in wind and soft conditions. September in the southwest of Ireland can bring rain and breeze. Golfers who flight the ball well and stay patient in changeable weather will cope best with soft, receptive turf.

Fan guide: getting there and being there

Airports

Shannon (SNN) is the closest, roughly 30–40 minutes by car, with transatlantic and European flights. Cork (ORK) is about 90 minutes, and Dublin (DUB) about 2.5 hours but with the widest long-haul network. Many international fans will fly into Shannon for the easiest access to Adare and the wider southwest.

Transport and parking

Adare is a small village and the course is rural, not on a major rail line. You can take a train to Limerick from Dublin, Cork or Galway and then a taxi or bus for the final stretch (about 25 minutes). For the event itself, official Park & Ride sites and traffic-management plans are being put in place by Limerick City and County Council, and a long-awaited Adare bypass is due to open in June 2027, ahead of the match — both should ease the notorious village bottleneck. Accommodation areas

Rooms at Adare Manor itself during Ryder Cup week are effectively unavailable to the public — allocated to teams, officials and hospitality. Realistic bases include Adare village (the Dunraven Arms and Fitzgerald's Woodlands House Hotel), Limerick city (about 20–25 minutes), and, a little further out, Killarney, Cork and the County Clare coast, all within about 90 minutes. Walking the course and best spectator spots

This is a walkable parkland with viewing built into the design — Fazio and the organisers engineered spectator pathways and sightlines into the reconstruction. The natural amphitheatres are the closing holes: grandstands around the 18th green and the par-3 16th will be the hottest tickets for atmosphere. Early risers can follow a featured match out; those who prefer a fixed spot can camp at a closing hole and watch the drama come to them.

Weather and packing

Expect mild, changeable conditions — around 14–18°C, with a genuine chance of rain and wind. Pack proper waterproofs, warm layers, and comfortable waterproof footwear for long days on soft ground. Sunscreen and a hat still earn their place; Irish weather can offer all four seasons in an afternoon.

Food, drink, mobile coverage and accessibility

The event will have an extensive spectator village with food, drink and big screens (the official "The Green" ticket product sits beside it with lounges and dining). Adare village itself is full of well-regarded pubs and restaurants for before and after. Mobile coverage in rural Limerick is generally good but can be strained by huge crowds — download any tickets and travel details in advance rather than relying on a signal on the day. Confirmed and official. Tickets are sold exclusively through rydercup.com. Adare Manor does not sell tickets. Every fan needs a registered ticket account to take part in any sale, and buyers must be 18 or over. The published routes to a ticket have been:

• Daily General Admission ballot — the main public route for the three match days, allocated by ballot rather than first-come.
• Weekly tickets and "The Green" — sold worldwide on a first-come, first-served basis.
